Oval Cut Rings
When choosing a cut of diamond for a ring, ask yourself, 'What is my style?'. If you lean towards a classic style, you may prefer a traditional cut such as a princess cut diamond. Or, if you prefer modern aesthetics, you can opt for an oval cut diamond.
If you decide on an oval cut ring, we have an extensive collection of high-quality oval cut diamond simulant rings to dazzle you.
Invented in 1957, the oval cut has become increasingly popular in recent years. This cut features an oval-shaped stone with 58 facets, which allows for increased brilliance and sparkle. It closely resembles the traditional round brilliant cut, but its wider surface area makes it appear larger.
Now you have your heart set on an oval cut ring, what mount would you prefer? Our 10 and 14-carat solid gold mounts are available in yellow gold, white gold, and rose gold.
Then the fun really begins as you select your setting. Your oval cut ring can be set in various ways.
- Halo. A collection of smaller stones surrounds one centre stone.
- Solitaire. One centre stone is set on a plain band.
- Shouldered. Smaller stones are set in the band from the centre stone out to the midpoint of the ring.
- Three-stone. Three stones are set in a row horizontally.
At Secrets Shhh, our diamond simulants are lab-grown from mineral base zirconium oxide. Make the more sustainable and affordable choice without sacrificing any of the sparkle of natural diamonds. We have a range of coloured simulants to choose from, including white, champagne, sapphire, emerald, rhodolite, and ruby.
Questions About Our Oval Cut Rings?
What is an oval cut ring?
An Oval cut is very similar to the Round Brilliant cut but in an elongated oval shape. The rounded edges make for an elegant appeal, and the elongated shape can make fingers look long and slender. An Oval cut diamond can work in any kind of setting, from vintage to contemporary chic. This cut is growing in popularity as an alternative to the more classic Round Brilliant cut. An Oval cut is generally less expensive than a Round Brilliant cut, but the Oval shape can make the stone appear bigger. It is important to choose a high colour grade for Oval cut rings because the stones show their colour more clearly than a Round Brilliant cut. At Secrets our Oval cuts are rated colour D to F which are the highest colour grades available.
Is oval cut cheaper than round cut?
Oval cut rings tend to be less expensive than Round Brilliant cut designs, this is mainly because there is less waste when cutting an Oval cut diamond from the rough. Oval cut diamonds can also appear up to 10% larger than Round Brilliant cut stones of the same carat weight, so you enjoy more sparkle for your money. At Secrets Shhh our Oval cut centre stones are cut for maximum fire and brilliance, making our engagement rings truly amazing.
How much are oval cut rings?
Oval cut diamond rings can actually cost less than Round Brilliant cut rings. The price you pay will depend on the size and carat weight of the gemstone, and the metal setting you choose, but Oval cut rings tend to be less costly than the ever-popular round cuts. At Secrets Shhh, we have a huge range of Oval cut rings, with prices from $299 to $1,599, so you can find a ring you love to suit your budget. Our collection includes both diamond and colour gemstone simulants, single or multiple stone rings, bands, and dress rings in sterling silver or 10 carat gold.
When did oval cut rings become popular?
Although the Oval shape has been used in jewellery for centuries, the sleek and modern Oval cut style that is trending today was first designed in 1957. Russian diamond cutter Lazare Kaplan developed an Oval cut that preserved the brilliance of the stone and could be widely produced. He was able to use fractured or flawed diamonds that would normally be discarded and cut them down into beautiful stones, with an elongated shape that makes them look bigger in size.
The Oval cut therefore garnered a lot of attention in the 1960s. Its popularity then exploded from 1981, when it was worn by Princess Diana, and again in 2010 when this same ring was inherited by Kate Middleton. In recent years, this cut has adorned the hands of many high profile celebrities and is trending as a stylish and contemporary alternative to the classic Round Brilliant or Pear cuts. Secrets Shhh has a wide range of exquisite Oval cut rings and they are surprisingly affordable.
