Questions About Hoop Earrings?
How do you wear hoop earrings?
Hoop earrings come in various shapes and sizes, so there is almost an infinite number of different looks you can create. Small hoops tend to work best when your hair is up or tied back so that you get the full benefit. Large hoops work well with hair up or down and can be used to make more of a dramatic statement. Hoop earrings are a great way of adding sparkle and glamour to a simple look, or elevating your style with a touch of drama and style. You can also pair your hoop earrings with other complementary jewellery pieces, such as a simple yet elegant necklace. Hoop earrings may be hinged or clasped with a loop. To put them on, undo the hinge or loop and hold with the opening facing upwards. With one hand on either side of the opening, you may need to slightly twist the hoop open by pushing one hand forwards and the other back. You should then be able to slide the earring into your ear. What are hoop earrings?
Hoop earrings are those that form a circular or oval shape that connects at the piercing and then either hugs the ear lobe or hangs lower. We know that hoops were worn by Ancient Greeks and Romans and in fact date back to the earliest African civilizations. They tended to be a symbol of tribal identity, status or power, and still today hoop earrings suggest a certain strength, boldness, independence and empowerment. You can choose anything from a small and simple gold hoop to an extravagantly elongated hoop that hangs down towards the shoulders. They can be studded with gemstones, and be bright and bold to add a splash of colour to your outfit. How are hoop earrings measured?
When choosing your size of hoop earrings, think about where on your ear you want to wear the hoop. For piercings on your lobe you have plenty of flexibility, but if your piercing is higher up your ear you will probably want something fairly small that hugs the edge of the ear. Hoop earrings can vary in thickness as well as hoop size, so it’s best to measure from your piercing to the inside edge of the hoop, and then add on the thickness of the hoop itself if you want the measurement to the outer edge. Use a ruler with mm markings and measure the distance between the piercing in your ear and wherever you want the inside edge of your hoop to be. This might be just outside your ear lobe, or you might want medium/large hoops that hang lower. As a general guide, hoop diameters tend to range from 5mm “huggies” to 120mm oversized statement hoops. Medium-sized hoops can be anything from 35-75mm, and large hoops will be roughly 75-100mm.
How do you take out hoop earrings?
Some continuous hoop earrings have a small pin or clasp at the join, while others are designed with just a slight break in the hoop where you can insert it into the piercing. Either way, the process of removing the hoop is much the same. While holding the front of the earring steady between two fingers, feel for the pin or the break in the hoop behind your ear. Pull the two sides apart and gently slide the hoop out. For hinged hoop earrings, locate the hinge behind your ear, open it up into more of a c-shape, and slide the earring out of your ear. You can then close the hinge with a click.
