How do you clean a wedding ring?
When you’re wearing an engagement ring or a wedding ring every day, it’s inevitable that dirt and grime will build up over time. This will be most noticeable with diamond rings as the stones will start to look a bit dull, whereas a simple wedding band won’t need cleaning quite as often. However, it’s important to have your ring checked by your jeweller regularlyand to care for your rings so that they don’t become tarnished or damaged. We recommend that you clean your ring every couple of weeks, and take the opportunity to check for any loosening or chips. When cleaning, avoid any harsh chemicals and just use warm, soapy water. Let the ring soak for a few minutes, and then use a soft toothbrush or small, soft brush to remove any remaining grime. Rinse the ring and gently dry with a soft cloth or leave to air dry. You could also use a polishing cloth to buff up the band and/or diamond. What is a wedding band?
Wedding bands are the rings that are exchanged during the wedding ceremony as a symbol of the marriage. This is not the same as the engagement ring, which tends to be presented at the time of the proposal - or soon after - as a sign that you intend to marry your partner. Traditionally, there is only one engagement ring, worn by the person who has accepted the proposal, but two wedding bands (one each). From the wedding onwards, the wedding band is usually worn on the ring finger of the left hand (alongside the engagement ring if you have one). Wedding bands may be more simple and understated than engagement rings, but it is entirely up to you! Are mens and womens wedding ring sizes different?
No, women’s and men’s ring sizing uses the same scale, so you don’t have to specify. The difference is that men’s hands and fingers tend to be bigger, on average, so more rings for men are sold in bigger sizes. This applies to the finger size as well as the width of the band itself. Women tend to choose a thinner band, between 1 and 4mm, while men often prefer a band that is 5-8mm thick. This is because a thinner band can look more elegant on a smaller, more slender finger. A thicker band might look bulky or unbalanced, and could become annoying to wear every day. As ever, though, it comes down to personal preference and comfort.
